Michael was born into a musical family and started playing drums in 2005, following his dad's footsteps. About 10 years later,  he added guitar and electric bass to his expertise, and eventually learned everything he needed to play in bands: drums, percussion, guitar, bass, ukulele and even keyboards. After teaching friends and family, he eventually began a career teaching private and group classes at a school focused on students who also want to play in a band.  In addition to working with band students, he spent a year traveling to homes of students with special needs.  In that environment, he learned how to use music in a flexible and creative way in order to enrich the lives of students of varying abilities and disabilities. This additional versatility made him a great fit for The Music Place.

As semi-professional performer since 2017, Michael has played in many different styles of bands in different venues from churches to jazz clubs, galas, convention centers and other national venues, With more than a dozen years of touring, writing, and recording experience  Michael also has extensive experience as a producer, studio engineer, mixer and masterer. He is excited about helping with our recording artist camps this summer.

Michael enjoys doing a lot of performing in the area in various bands, and you may see him play drums on youtube at this link.

Teaching Style

Michael loves teaching multiple genres of music including jazz, folk, gospel, rock and more. Since his interests are so broad, he can usually relate to most any music that students are interested in learning. After first assessing a student's strengths and interests, his outgoing personality engages and inspires them to work toward playing their dream song or music.
