SPECIALIZED GROUP MUSIC CLASSES
CUSTOMIZED CLASSES CAN MEET YOUR CHILD'S SPECIFIC NEEDS
Since we "teach to the child", we can offer the following customized classes upon request, or even develop more!
Your growing child may love music, but may not have
had an opportunity like EMA to handle a variety of instruments before
choosing one. Before you make an investment in an instrument that your
child has never tried before, consider enrolling in an
10-Week Instrument Survey! Offered in both group and private
settings, this class includes learning about the instruments and their
families, parts of the instruments, how to hold and
make sounds on them, and lots of hands-on time with them. In
addition, students will learn an overview of note-reading that will make
their first lessons on their chosen instrument easier and more fun.
They will be able to learn songs sooner!
INSTRUMENTS PROVIDED! Using Music Place instruments for the survey, parents do not have to worry about investing in the rental of instruments or making an instrument choice without educated guidance from a music instructor.
Instruments explored may be somewhat customized but will always include size/age-appropriate instruments such as: Violin/Cello, Piano/Keyboard, Flute/Recorder, Trumpet/Trombone, Clarinet/Saxophone, Drums, Xylophone/Glockenspiel, Guitar/Ukelele, Harp, Euphonium/Tuba
SPECIAL NOTE: The instrument survey class (like any group class) may be taken as a private (one-on-one) lesson for 4-6 weeks and may be customized for your child.
KEYBOARD OVERVIEW** (Ages 6-9)Students ages 6-9 may join the second half of an Instrument Prep class in which students use individual keyboards to learn the keyboard geography (location of notes on keys), posture & technique and also apply their theory learning to playing simple songs. A private "catch-up" lesson class may be set up separately for students with no previous experience.
GROUP VS. PRIVATE: The first 8-10 weeks of learning most instruments (posture, fingering, technique, navigation, note-reading etc.) is the same for everyone, so it can be successful in a group environment. After that, however, we believe it is best for students to receive one-on-one instruction which can address the individual learning style of each child. This also helps to ensure that they will make enough progress to be inspired and want to keep learning. Private lessons can of course be supplemented with other other forms of group learning, and often at significant discounts.
The Music Place offers beginning and intermediate instrumental groups for ages 7* & up. Size-limited classes will be offered for all levels who want to explore or play with others on bowed strings (violin, cello, viola) or guitar. Beginning students may join group with a paid introductory private lesson. Non- beginners may join any time. 50% DISCOUNT! Those who take weekly private weekly lessons may join a string (or vocal) ensemble at 50% the group class tuition.
BOWED (Violin, Viola, Cello), or FRETTED (Guitar, Bass, Mandolin,Ukulele) STRING GROUPS available.
*Six-year-old students who have completed the Instrument Prep course may join these classes with teacher approval. ** Instruments not provided.
NEW! Group drumming classes focus on developing rhythmic coordination using a variety of different drums and percussion instruments. Includes Afro-Cuban and other ethnic drumming techniques. Great preparation for Trap Set, Djembe and Congas. Drum Camps, Workshops and Level II session classes available for Ages 7 & up. See Drums & Beats Class Schedule.

I tell everyone who will listen about the amazing introduction to music that our daughter is getting with the Music Place. People are always amazed when a 3-year old explains that she played an oboe last week and is going to play a piccolo next week!
