From the time Shane began private piano lessons in the second grade to the time he received his B.A. in Improvised Music Studies from San Jose State University, he has always been consistent about music and has always taken music seriously. He was first inspired to learn to play the piano when he heard his grandmother play Viennese waltzes. He has been teaching jazz and classical piano (along with various other genres) since 2003. He has been teaching piano, guitar, and some beginning voice lessons for The Music Place since 2005. As a teacher, he is patient and encouraging, and believes that learning should be fun and productive. He has been the pianist for musicals, choirs, church services, and weddings. He's also played for gigs at restaurants, with jazz trios, and with Latin jazz/Salsa and Big Band ensembles. Some of his biggest achievements so far include performing at the world renowned Monterey Jazz Festival and performing with Latin Jazz sensation and recording artist, Pete Escovedo. Shane is originally from Campbell, CA and enjoys spending time with his parents, brother, and cat. He also enjoys composing, arranging, and experimenting with digital audio software.
