Joel is a two-time graduate of the University of Wyoming with a B.A. and an M.M. in Violin Performance with specialties in String Pedagogy (teaching), Renaissance and Baroque theory and Baroque and Classical Performance Practice. He has had extensive performing experience with the Fort Collins, Cheyenne, and other Symphony Orchestras, and from traveling with many bands playing the guitar since the age of 15, touring across the US, Canada, and abroad in Europe.

Even through all of Joel's performing experience, pedagogy remains a passion. After teaching for many years, Joel became an individual and group teacher with the University of Wyoming String Project and String Academy, from 2001 until 2005. Joel has been with us at The Music Place since early 2007 and believes that "teaching is the ultimate reward". He thinks "developing a relationship with a student and watching them become a better person through music is the best job in the world". Joel is a high-energy, fun, and focused teacher with high yet attainable standards for all of his students. Creating an understanding of the instrument in a non-judgmental atmosphere is crucial, as is full parental support and involvement in the learning process.

In his personal life, Joel is a new uncle! When he is not teaching or playing, he enjoys skateboarding, rock climbing, and anything else that involves the mountains.
